A faint memory of seeing Snorri Helgason at Iceland Airwaves recently crept up in my mind. But what I seem to remember, as much as remembering Snorri's talent, was the woman who sang along with him - Sigurlaug Gísladóttir. She is also a member of múm and mr silla & mongoose. Their album, Foxbite (2007) is so good, especially the tune below. To hear more songs (or buy them), go to http://www.gogoyoko.com/album/900
and here is Sigurlaug Gísladóttir with Snorri:
and I also really like this new song of Bahamas':

this post is about food. good food i've had recently. and good food i keep going back to.
*trafiq - i go here weekly with carolyn after our swim date at hillcrest. the baguette and panini sandwiches are damn good and their desserts are fit for the afterlife!
*carabash-i just went here tonight and though it is a lot like the reef, it seems more homey in atmosphere and the food seems derived from a more homey recipe source.
*save on meats has a peanut butter milkshake. need i say more?
and a really good muffin recipe (via caro and via allrecipes.com):

even after a 2 hr. intro to digital slr camera's, i am still intimidated by my camera. so no new photos to post yet. i have to take some field trips. with charles. and get to know him.
above are two movie stills.
1) stephen dorff in Somewhere. i think sofia coppola does quiet moments in her films very well. those quiet moments where you know a character has shifted. this scene was my favorite of the whole film (and i also like the intro scene which was lauded as the best of 2010). dorff's character is having a head mould taken. he is just inhaling and exhaling deeply. calmly. and all i could think was: "if my face were covered with gunk for that long, my breathing would be more laboured." but it seemed like an important moment of surrender for his character. you really must see this movie.
2) this is a scene from The Curve of Forgotten Things, featuring Elle Fanning. I am big Fanning of her! get it? grrrrroooooan! anywho, she's in Somewhere and i think that she totally demands the camera's attention in every scene. You can watch The Curve of Forgotten Things here: http://www.nowness.com/day/2011/2/8/1302/elle-fanning-rodartes-muse
