full of sun & sand

I always know when summer-jen arrives. Dishes are left and she's not home for days (besides for sleeping). The fridge gets empty (besides beer & condiments for bbq's) and when she is home, she is tired from all the fresh air and sun and the energy is zombie-like.

It's Sunday night and I am completely tuckered from a full-on weekend out. The Friday Siskiyou show was really good. Notably, 'Waters', with Lindsay Hampton and Andrew Lee (now fill-in banjo for Erik in Siskiyou, as he is on tour with Great Lake Swimmers).
You can hear some 'Waters' here: http://wtrs.bandcamp.com/

And on a unrelated note, I just read an article in Edible Vancouver about how much of your hard earned dollars go back into our local economy when you shop locally.
Some examples:
-$20 on B.C wine or beer or cider and $13.60 kept locally
-$90 on dinner for two at a locally owned restaurant and $61 is put into our community economy

The reverse: $100 spent at a big box, and only $43 stays in your community. Spend money with Netflix or Amazon...$0 to our local community. Imagine what our city would look like without independent stores? Actually, being in Iceland was a good eye-opener. They barely have any big box stores or chains that we see often see in N. America. It was a nice change. I can be weak to the accessibility of chains (a starbucks on every corner practically!) and their cheaper prices. But we're trading off a lot for the easy and cheap.

Ok gotta go do those dishes and fill the fridge. Blurgh.
